The Laguna Art Museum just had its most successful auction in 15 years, with gross proceeds totaling $100,000.
About 300 artists, buyers and members attended the event Saturday, and the auction helped kick off the museum’s newest exhibitions, which include:
Modotti and Weston: “Mexicanidad,” black and white photographs focusing on the heritage of Mexico; Billy Al Bengston: “San Felipe to Puerto Escondido,” a survey of paintings inspired by the coast of Mexico; and Sandow Birk: “Carioca,” a year among the natives of Rio de Janeiro.
An opening reception for members will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the museum. The exhibition opens Sunday and will continue through Jan. 4.
The Laguna Art Museum is at 307 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach.
