Hale Irwin, who already has set one Senior PGA Tour record this year with $2.1 million in prize money and is closing in on another, has entered next weekend’s Ralphs Senior Classic.
Arnold Palmer and Lee Trevino also have entered the $1-million event, which now features 27 of the top 31 players on the money list and will be played Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at Wilshire Country Club.
Irwin, 52, has won nine tournaments this year, matching Peter Thomson’s 12-year-old record. He could pass Thomson with a victory at Wilshire or at the $1.7-million Senior Tour Championship at the Dunes in Myrtle Beach, S.C., the following week.
Palmer, 68, had prostate-cancer surgery in January. He has played in only 12 senior events this year and his best finish is a tie for 32nd.
