New Century Financial Corp.: The Irvine company, which sells sub-prime mortgage loans, reported net income of $7 million, or 46 cents a share, for the third quarter, up from $294,000, or 4 cents a share, for the 1996 third quarter. Revenue grew to $32.5 million from $3.2 million. Net income for the nine-month period totaled $14.5 million, or $1.16 a share, contrasted with a net loss of $521,000, or 8 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue advanced to $68.1 million from $4.3 million. The company, which had its initial public offering in July, said it opened 18 retail offices and 11 wholesale offices during the 1997 third quarter.
