Marinovich Is Sentenced to Jail on Drug Counts

Todd Marinovich, the former USC and Raiders quarterback, pleaded guilty Thursday to drug charges and was sentenced to six months in jail.

Marinovich, who entered his plea to a felony count of cultivating marijuana and two misdemeanor counts, also will be on probation for three years. He must begin the jail term on or before Nov. 7.

He appeared Thursday in Laguna Niguel before Municipal Court Judge Carl Biggs, just two days after Biggs issued a warrant for Marinovich’s arrest for failing to appear in court three times since Aug. 15.

Marinovich, 27, was arrested March 24 after paramedics and Orange County sheriff’s deputies were called to his Dana Point home to help one of his friends, who was unconscious.

While paramedics treated the friend, deputies found a marijuana plant, a bag of marijuana, a syringe and prescription medicine that was not in Marinovich’s name, authorities said.
