SALT LAKE CITY — A 330-pound man is seeking $3 million from one of the nation’s largest supermarket companies, claiming his boss violated anti-discrimination laws by calling him a “fat slob.” Leslie Alan Roberts, 54, charges that American Stores violated the federal Americans With Disabilities Act by allowing his supervisor to harass him about his weight.
A spokesman for the company, which operates 1,690 supermarkets and pharmacies in 27 states, denied the charges made Monday in a federal lawsuit.
Roberts worked for the firm for 35 years and suffers from diabetes, morbid obesity, poor circulation and congestive heart failure.
