County Fair Highlights

The 75th annual Los Angeles County Fair will run through Sept. 28 at the Fairplex, two blocks north of the San Bernardino Freeway in Pomona. Horse races are run daily, with a first post time of 12:30 p.m. A sampling of weekend events:
Concerts--Grandstand Stage
* Little Texas--today
* Marco Antonio Solis--Sunday
All grandstand concerts are free with fair admission. Box and stage-level seats are $10, grandstand reserved seats are $8 and general admission is $6. All concerts begin at 8 p.m.
Celebration Stage--Plaza of the States
* The Coasters--today through Sunday
UFO Encounters Exhibit
* The $8-million exhibit in a large tent near the Yellow Gate gives fair-goers a chance to walk through a live-action enactment that includes a close encounter with an extraterrestrial and an alien autopsy.
Contests, Special Events
* Saturday--Cat in the Hat birthday party and Green Eggs and Ham breakfast, America’s Kids, 9 a.m.; Western Round-Up parade, Broadway and Palm, noon; Mother-Daughter Look-Alike, Good Music stage, 2 p.m.; Family Hands-On Building, America’s Kids, 4 p.m.; excavating dinosaur fossils, America’s Kids, 6:30 p.m.; Diamond Day giveaway, Celebration stage, 6:30 p.m.; Bullriders’ Classic, Fairplex Park, 8 p.m.
* Sunday--Wood carvers, Court of the Redwoods, noon; twins and triplets, Good Music stage, noon; Dr. Okinaka’s Great Mouse Trap Car, Education Expo, 2 p.m.
Fireworks--Nightly, 10 p.m.
Fair Hours: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday.
Admission: General adult, $9; children 6-12, $5; over 60, $7; carnival wristband (unlimited rides) Monday-Friday, $16.
Parking: General, $5; preferred, $7; premium preferred (hotel lot only) $10; valet, $10.
