The Los Angeles County coroner’s office confirmed the identities Wednesday of four people killed when their single-engine plane crashed into a building just after takeoff from Torrance Municipal Airport last weekend.
County officials identified the victims as Shimpei Matsumoto, 35, who headed the U.S. subsidiary of a Japanese printing company and is the son of Daicolo Corp. President Hajime Matsumoto; Masayoshi Kohira, 30, of Los Angeles; Miki Tomigashi, 28, of Glendale; and Mizuho Yamakawa, 23, of Los Angeles.
The plane crashed through the top two floors of a three-story medical office building near Hawthorne Boulevard and Skypark Drive on Sunday. It broke into pieces and erupted into flames. No one was in the building at the time.
The confirmation came a day after the Japanese Foreign Ministry released a statement tentatively identifying three of the four victims.
