City Changes Laws on Signs, Noise

The City Council recently voted to amend two municipal ordinances related to sign codes and noise.
The first action limits the use of Main Street banner poles to city-sponsored events. Previously, nonprofit organizations could apply for banner permits, but city officials said the requests were becoming too numerous to accommodate.
The updated noise ordinance prohibits construction on city- observed federal holidays, which will allow work on Columbus Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Officials said that since City Hall is open for business on those two federal holidays, construction crews should also be permitted to work.
