It’s a Cajun World After All

To tout its newly renovated Tomorrowland, Disneyland recently shipped “Tomorrowland Blast-Off Hot Sauce” to media agencies. The 6-ounce bottles of the spicy red stuff sport bright red-and-yellow labels featuring the prominent Moonliner rocket that, though removed during Tomorrowland’s face-lift, will return this month.
But hiding beneath the “Blast-Off” label is proof that this condiment hails from more genuine hot sauce territory than Anaheim. A So SoCal investigation--we peeled it back, all right?--revealed that Disney’s promotional label is merely slapped on top of Cajun Chef Products’ own Louisiana Hot Sauce, a cayenne concoction the Bulliard family has been churning out since 1910 in the heart of Cajun country, St. Martinville, La.
Cajun Chef vice president and general manager Jimmie Bulliard says he wasn’t aware that the Magic Kingdom was rebadging his sauce; the park’s been buying the stuff from him for about a year. “Their volume recently increased, you can say that,” Bulliard admits, but he says you probably won’t see any other Cajun Chef products locally. “California is not our market at all.”
