Quake Relief Agencies Show What’s Shakin’

More than a dozen local, state and federal disaster response agencies hauled out helicopters, cranes and other equipment Tuesday as part of a public demonstration program to mark Earthquake Preparedness Month.
Agencies ranging from the American Red Cross to the county Office of Emergency Services participated in the event at the Ventura County Government Center.
The purpose of the program was to demonstrate the importance of preparing for the Big One, officials said.
The annual event coincides with the anniversary of the April 18, 1906, San Francisco earthquake that took the lives of 503 people.
Emergency preparedness officials held a variety of exercises, training sessions and other events across the state.
