Beijing Delegation Meets With Students

A delegation of government officials from Beijing visited Pasadena on Tuesday to observe an award-winning teleconferencing program that allows students at Blair High School to interact with their peers in schools around the world.
Students in teacher Rich Miyagawa’s class who are studying English as a second language can network with students in Mexico and other countries who are also learning English. This year the program will expand to include a Swedish high school. The program won the California School Board Assn.’s 1997 Golden Bell Award.
Beijing officials have expressed interest in collaborating with Blair High School, and Tuesday’s visit was also part of a Pasadena effort to develop sister city ties with a Chinese city. Twelve cities are being considered.
