Los Angeles city firefighters presented a $500 check Tuesday to the mother of a 2-year-old girl killed in a recent fire in the family’s apartment.
Enedina Alpide, 22, was badly burned in the Feb. 28 blaze in the 1300 block of South Kenmore Avenue, ignited by a halogen lamp placed too close to combustible material, said department spokesman Bob Collis.
Alpide’s daughter Ingri died in the blaze. The woman suffered burns to her face, neck and arms when she tried to rescue the child, Collis said.
“The firefighters took up a collection to help the family,” Collis said.
