The city will play host to an all-day conference Saturday with workshops aimed at improving communication between teenagers and their parents.
The fifth annual Bridging the Gap to Understanding conference will include a keynote address from Donzaleigh Abernathy, who along with her father, the Rev. Ralph David Abernathy, and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. helped integrate the first elementary school in Georgia in the 1960s.
The conference will also include workshops on teenage pregnancy, peer pressure, teenage suicide, domestic violence and crossing and erasing color lines.
Parents and teenagers will attend separate workshops in the morning and will come together in the afternoon. About 100 parents and 400 teenagers have registered for the event.
The conference is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at the Carson Community Center at 3 Civic Plaza.
