Cal Lutheran University will pay homage to female dancers, painters, writers and actors during the 1998 Festival of Women in the Arts on April 20.
The daylong event will include an opening show at 10 a.m. in the Preus-Brandt Forum with poets, musicians, actors and dancers. A noontime poetry reading and recital will follow in the foyer.
At 4 p.m., participants will have a chance to meet Norwegian artist Grete Kvaal, who photographically documented the lives of the Saami women, who are Lapland reindeer herders. Her exhibit will be on display between Tuesday and May 1 in the Kwan Fong Gallery of Art and Culture.
Another show of visual arts of all media, featuring the work of female students, faculty, staff, alumnae and community members, will be at the Pearson Library through May 10.
All events are free and open to the public.
The festival is sponsored by Cal Lutheran’s Women’s Resource Center and Second Wind and the art, music, English and drama departments. For more information, call the resource center at 493-3345 or the university public relations office at 493-3151.
