Jones Secures Victory for El Camino Real

Matt Jones, the No. 4 singles player for the El Camino Real High boys’ tennis team, clinched a 5-2 victory for the host Conquistadores over Taft by defeating Eugene Grinblat, 6-2, 6-3, in a Northwest Valley Conference match Tuesday.

The Narayan brothers of El Camino Real (8-0, 6-0 in conference play) and the Hajimirzaee brothers of Taft (8-1, 5-1) split their singles matches.

Manish Narayan defeated Farhad Hajimirzaee, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles and Farshid Hajimirzaee defeated Bobby Narayan, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), at No. 2 singles.

Granada Hills 7, Chatsworth 0--Chris Yoo improved to 9-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Davey Asao to lead the Highlanders (8-1, 5-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Chatsworth.

GIRLS’ TRACK

North Hollywood 109, Canoga Park 20--Freshman Natalie Stein was a triple winner for host North Hollywood (4-0, 4-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet.

Stein clocked 2:31.1 in the 800 meters, 5:36.7 in the 1,600 and 11:42.5 in the 3,200.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Birmingham d. Cleveland, 15-13, 15-2, 15-8--Michael Johnson had 12 kills and five blocks, and Jason Wolden had 10 kills and four blocks for host Birmingham (4-5, 2-4) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.

Hart d. Valencia, 8-15, 16-14, 14-16, 15-12, 15-6--Sandro Mejia had 15 kills, Kevin Dalton had 11 and Nick Christensen had 11 digs for host Hart (1-8, 1-1) in a Foothill League match.

Saugus d. Canyon, 10-15, 15-9, 15-11, 15-6--Jeff Steele had 12 kills, Matt Bradley had 11 and Dave Van Duzee had 50 assists for the host Centurions (6-1, 2-0) in a Foothill League victory..

Campbell Hall d. Village Christian, 15-7, 15-3, 15-13--Larry Cole had 22 kills and six digs, and Tanner Ragland had 39 assists for host Campbell Hall (7-1, 4-0) in an Alpha League match.

GOLF

Hart 331, Agoura 367--Ryan Wyman made three birdies on the back nine and finished with an even-par 61 to earn medalist honors for Hart (13-1-1) in a nonleague match at Vista Valencia Golf Course.

It was the second consecutive par round for Wyman, a junior. Charlie Smith had a 66 and Brandon Wallace shot 67 for Hart.

Crescenta Valley 202, Glendale 230--Dave Smith shot five-over-par 39 for Crescenta Valley and a trio of Falcons carded 43 in a Pacific League match at La Canada Country Club.

Notre Dame 202, Harvard-Westlake 207--Kevin Coghlan had two birdies en route to a one-over-par 36 and medalist honors for Notre Dame (11-3, 9-1) in a Mission League match at Lakeside Country Club.
