Swap Meet OKd for Former Drive-In Site

Movies are long gone, but a weekend swap meet has won approval to operate--at least temporarily--at the former Anaheim Drive-In.
The owner of the old Lemon Street drive-in recently received city approval to open a weekend swap meet until a permanent development project is set for the 25-acre site.
The City Council gave Los Angeles-based Pacific Theatres approval to run the swap meet until Jan. 31, 2000.
The swap meet will allow vendors to move from the former Orange Drive-In on State College Boulevard, which is being redeveloped.
In 1996, Pacific Theatres received approval to build a multiscreen theater and entertainment complex on the Anaheim Drive-In property.
But those plans have been abandoned and a new retail project is expected to be proposed for the property.
