Oxnard police on Wednesday were investigating the shootings of two teenagers on opposite ends of the city the night before.
At 7:51 p.m. Tuesday, 19-year-old Rafael Madera was shot once in the upper chest while walking in the 5200 block of Charles Street near Southwinds Park.
His assailant is described as a male in his 20s.
Authorities found Madera after officers heard several shots in the area. Statements from witnesses and the victim suggest that Madera was shot after a gang-related argument.
About 1 1/2 hours later, a 17-year-old boy, whom police would not identify, was shot twice in the back as he walked on 1st Street near Carmelita Court.
Police describe the victim as uncooperative and unwilling to provide any details into the shooting.
Police have no information suggesting the second shooting was gang-related or whether the two crimes are linked.
Both victims were taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard and initially listed in stable condition, police said.
Hospital officials didn’t return several phone calls Wednesday seeking updates on the victims’ conditions.
