Police arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of abducting a teenager at knifepoint on her way to school and then sexually assaulting her, authorities said Friday.
Mario Perez Mondragon of Long Beach was arrested hours after a 16-year-old girl was kidnapped Thursday morning as she waited at a bus stop near 17th Street and Alamitos Avenue, Long Beach Police Cpl. Harry Erickson said.
The girl was driven to a parking lot a block away and assaulted, officials said.
The teenager, who jumped out of the car as her attacker was driving away from the parking lot, contacted police and gave them a description of her abductor and his car, investigators said. Mondragon was arrested hours later on charges of kidnapping for purposes of sexual assault and assault with a deadly weapon, Erickson said.
Mondragon, who was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail, is also under investigation for a similar incident March 3, when a 40-year-old woman was abducted in north Long Beach and assaulted, authorities said.
