A man who was shot in the neck late Monday roamed the streets before managing to call police for help, Police Lt. John Haradon said.
Pedro Carrillo, 21, was drinking a beer near Iris Street and Guinida Lane when he was shot by a suspect in a vehicle, Haradon said. At 11:44, and a couple of blocks away, Carrillo reportedly called 911. Paramedics treated him and then transported him to UCI Medical Center, where he underwent surgery to remove the bullet.
Carrillo was in fair condition Tuesday, hospital officials said.
Police have interviewed two witnesses but have not made an arrest.
Authorities hope to get more information from Carillo when his condition improves.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at (714) 765-1970.
