Council to Discuss Lease for Golf Course

The City Council will consider Monday whether to begin negotiations with a local company to locate a championship golf course on city property.

Golden Tee Inc. is hoping to lease a 235-acre swath of land along Cochran Street between Sequoia Avenue and Sycamore Drive to construct 18-hole and nine-hole golf courses tentatively named the Arroyo Simi Golf Club.

In March, the council agreed to allow Golden Tee to begin studying the potential for a golf course on the site. Now that the study is finished, the company would like to move ahead with the project.

The city once used the land to till processed sludge into the soil, but the area has since served as a buffer between residents and a nearby water treatment plant.

The city has no plans to develop the property.

Though it is uncertain whether the council will lease the property, the city could expect $250,000 for the first year and $300,000 or 10% of the course’s revenue each year afterward if a deal is struck.

The City Council meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.
