Lying About Sex
I find it sad and ironic that while our country considers the possibility of impeaching a president because he may have lied about his sexual activities, gay Americans are still encouraged to lie about their sexual orientation in order to get and keep a job.
Better to lie about your orientation, our society inexorably maintains, than share the hard truth and perhaps make your co-workers uncomfortable. The double standard is striking. If you’re heterosexual, lying about your sex life is a major shortcoming, but if you’re gay, it’s your only salvation. Such hypocrisy has got to go.
