Spending Proposed for Park Center Design

In the hopes of giving teens and seniors more space for community events, the City Council today will consider spending $5,000 to design an activities center in Central Park.
Ron Kenny, director of Recreation and Community Services, said the city has set aside about $300,000 to build the center. The architectural design would be the first step in the project.
“We are looking for a multipurpose facility for youths and adults,” Kenny said. “Eventually, we hope to schedule a number of activities for all involved.”
The center would complement an existing “teen room” at Central Park that is overflowing with youths during after-school hours, Kenny said. The room serves as a tot classroom during morning.
Construction could start by the end of the year.
