Theater Foundation Gets $100,000 Donation

The Balboa Theater Foundation was given a $100,000 donation from John and Donna Crean to help reopen the historic movie house on the Balboa Peninsula.
The donation is the largest the foundation has received since Balboa residents began raising money in 1992, the year the 1927 theater closed.
To date, the group has raised $50,000 through several fund-raising events. The foundation needs to raise $1.3 million to buy the building and rehabilitate its interior.
Theater foundation members said they hoped the donation would spur other potential donors to give to their cause. The Creans, well-known philanthropists, reside in Santa Ana Heights.
