Newport Harbor Stuns No. 1 Eagles
Newport Harbor came back from a nine-point deficit midway through the fourth quarter and stunned top-ranked Santa Margarita, 50-47, in a Sea View League boys’ basketball game Wednesday at Newport Harbor.
Newport Harbor’s Gary Robinson made two three-pointers, the second giving the Sailors (15-8, 4-3) a one-point lead. Matt Jameson’s layup with 14 seconds left put Newport Harbor up by three.
Santa Margarita (21-1, 6-1), which played without point guard T.J. Williams, who sat out his second consecutive game with a sprained ankle, never got off a shot in the final seconds. The Sailors had extra fouls to give and used three of them to keep the Eagles from making an attempt.
