Germany’s Ursula Disl, collapsed at the finish line, wondering if her effort was enough to win the Olympic gold that has always eluded her.
Helped to her feet by Russia’s Galina Koukleva, she saw that her rival had beaten her by a mere seven-tenths of a second to win the women’s 7.5-kilometer sprint Sunday at Nozawa Onsen.
Koukleva won in 23:08.
