A 3-year-old El Monte boy died Saturday after his mother’s boyfriend allegedly struck him in the head for wetting his pants, a sheriff’s deputy said.
The child, Miguel Angel Grijales, was reportedly beaten at a home in the 1200 block of Magnolia Street about 11:30 a.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Angie Prewett said.
The boy was taken to Greater El Monte Community Hospital and was pronounced dead about 12:20 p.m., she said.
Jose Manuel Torres, 24, admitted striking the boy with his fist, knocking him unconscious for wetting his pants, Prewett said. Torres, who is not the boy’s father, was held on a charge of murder at the El Monte Police Department.
The boy’s mother, Rosalinda Grijales, 18, was not detained.
