Geraldine Ferraro called top New York Democrats to tell them she will seek the nomination to run against Republican Sen. Alfonse M. D’Amato, a source told Associated Press. Ferraro, a former vice presidential candidate and co-host of CNN’s “Crossfire” program, was scheduled to make her decision public this morning. CNN said Ferraro had resigned her position. Ferraro has planned news conferences in Manhattan, Buffalo and Albany and reportedly told friends she will seek the nomination. A former three-term congresswoman from Queens, Ferraro lost a bitter Democratic primary for the same Senate seat in 1992.
