Thurmond Recovers, Returns to Senate

Sen. Strom Thurmond returned to work one day after leaving a Georgia military hospital, where he spent a week being treated for a respiratory infection. “Can’t a person be 95 and enjoy good health and be normal?” the South Carolina Republican asked at a crowded news conference, called mainly to show that he has recovered.
