Horse Riders Sought to Do Park Patrols

Calling all horse owners: The National Park Service is seeking volunteers to ride their steeds throughout the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area to ensure bikers, hikers and other park visitors are safe and obey the rules.
Volunteers are asked to attend 16 hours of training, during which they will learn public relations skills and how to use a two-way radio. After that, the horse owners will be required to patrol 96 hours a year in the 22,000-acre recreation area.
Currently, 30 people are volunteers for the 11-year-old horse patrol.
There are about 20 additional slots open.
An orientation class will be held Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. at the National Park Visitor Center at 30401 Agoura Road No. 100.
