Trustees to Consider New Textbooks
New language arts materials to teach reading and spelling to students in kindergarten through sixth grade will be considered tonight by Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District trustees.
The board will consider approving a 30-day display of the Harcourt Brace textbooks and related materials, which teachers overwhelmingly support. The materials will be on display at the district’s Educational Services Center for anyone interested in reviewing them.
Under a one-year contract proposal, the board will also consider a 3.5% cost of living increase and enhancements in health benefits for the district’s 1,090 teachers.
If approved, the proposed increases will be retroactive to September 1997.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Educational Services Center, 4999 Casa Loma Ave. Information: (714) 996-2550.
