Rep. Kennedy Takes Over Energy Corp.

Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II will replace his deceased brother, Michael Kennedy, as chairman of the nonprofit Citizens Energy Corp, officials said. Joseph Kennedy founded the company to help pay the heating bills of homeless shelters and poor people in 1979, but handed it over to his brother in 1987 to run for Congress. Michael Kennedy was killed in a New Year’s Eve skiing accident in Colorado when he hit a tree. A spokesman said that Kennedy will continue as congressman and will run for reelection in 1998. The Citizens Energy board of directors will meet later this month to begin the search process for a new president.
