The city’s Planning Department recently received two new development applications, including a proposal for a large shopping center.
Vestar Development is proposing a 30-acre commercial center at Camino Capistrano and Junipero Serra Road. The center would include a mini-storage yard; a 134,000-square-foot retail store; a soccer training center; a 103-room hotel; and 94,000 square feet of smaller shops.
Capistrano Ford wants to build a second lot on the southwest corner of Camino Capistrano and Stonehill Drive. The site would include displays and inventory of new vehicles. The company plans to continue offering sales and service in Costco Plaza.
The proposals are awaiting hearings before several city panels. The review process for the proposals is expected to take between three months and a year.
