CALIFORNIA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
* County connections: Tamara Inoue of Laguna Hills
* Worth noting: Inoue, a freshman guard, started in Cal’s 59-50 loss to USC Sunday, scoring two points. Inoue’s best game of the season was in a victory over Oregon State, when she had nine points, five assists and three steals for Cal (5-10).
LONG BEACH COLLEGE WOMEN’S SOCCER
* County connections: Jennifer Ferguson of Los Alamitos and Melissa McShane of Cypress
* Worth noting: Ferguson, a freshman sweeper, was a first-team All-South Coast Conference selection and led Long Beach to four consecutive shutouts in the state playoffs, including a 1-0 victory over Ohlone in the title game. McShane, a sophomore fullback from Cypress High and Cypress College, also contributed on defense for Long Beach, which was ranked second in the nation.
