Green Wants Deal Extended Beyond ’98

Minnesota Viking Coach Dennis Green, who sparred with club management throughout the season, reportedly has threatened to resign unless he gets a contract extension.
The New York Times reported Friday that Green has asked for an answer on a contract extension by Tuesday and is prepared to sit out the 1998 season if necessary.

Indianapolis quarterback Jim Harbaugh has heard that the Colts will take either Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf with the No. 1 pick in the April draft, meaning Harbaugh is probably out of a job.
“I haven’t officially been contacted by the Colts, but my agent [Leigh Steinberg] and I have heard . . . that they are going a different direction and I don’t figure in their plans,” Harbaugh said.
