Rage Can’t Stop Blizzard’s Jones

Carolyn Jones scored seven of her season-high 35 points during a 13-0 run in the second quarter as the New England Blizzard defeated the Philadelphia Rage, 88-77, Saturday night before 8,140 at Springfield, Mass.
Jones was 11 of 14 from the field and 12 of 13 from the free-throw line in the Blizzard’s fifth consecutive victory.
The Blizzard (20-16) moved four games over .500 and reduced its magic number for making the playoffs to four.
New England led, 55-35, after Dale Hodges’ three-point play with 7:36 left in the third quarter. The Rage (11-23) didn’t get closer than nine the rest of the way as its losing streak reached eight.
Seattle 81, Atlanta 78--Christy Hedgpeth made a three-point basket to key a late rally that gave the Reign (11-24) the victory before 9,667 at Georgia Tech’s Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Player-coach Teresa Edwards led the Glory (13-21) with 22 points.
