Flores’ Hot Hand Lifts Buena, 47-44

Reserve guard Melissa Flores scored eight of her 11 points in the third quarter to spark host Buena High over Ventura, 47-44, Tuesday night in a girls’ basketball game for first place in the Channel League.
Freshman center Kelly Greathouse had 10 points and seven rebounds for Buena (18-1, 9-0 in league play) and Kelly Murray made a free throw with 10 seconds to play to extend a 46-44 lead.
Kristine Gleisberg scored a game-high 17 points for Ventura (12-5, 7-2), which was attempting to beat its cross-town rival for the first time since the 1993-94 season.
Buena, ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, overcame a 20-17 halftime deficit to claim its 53rd consecutive league victory.
Flores’ two three-point baskets sparked the Bulldogs’ 21-9 run in the third quarter.

Louisville 66, Villanova 19--Sarah Kelso had 18 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals and six assists, and Megan Wiser scored 18 points for the Royals (13-3) in a nonleague game at Louisville.
Paraclete 46, Kern Valley 35--Freshman guard Jackie Kolesar had 14 points and six steals for Paraclete (13-4, 3-2) in a High Desert League game at Kern Valley.
Montclair Prep 77, Santa Clarita Christian 21--Senior forward Laura Power had 32 points and 16 rebounds for the Mounties (7-5, 4-0), who won their 28th consecutive Westside League game.
Flintridge Sacred Heart 53, Hillcrest Christian 21--Danielle Dal Ponte made four three-point baskets and scored 21 points for the visiting Tologs (7-9) in a nonleague game.
Santa Barbara 73, Oxnard 46--Senior guard Rosa Govea had 14 points and four steals for the host Oxnard (5-14, 3-6) in a Channel League game.
Lisa Willett scored 18 points and Lauren Brooker had 13 for Santa Barbara (9-8, 7-2).
Bishop Diego 55, St. Bonaventure 45--Stacy Howard had 24 points for St. Bonaventure (12-8, 4-1) in a game for first place in the Tri-Valley League.
Jennifer Haake had 16 points and 15 rebounds, and Bettina Lomeli had 14 points for Bishop Diego (13-4, 4-1).
Frazier Mountain 47, L.A. Baptist 36--Candace Pillado had 23 points for the Falcons (4-0 in league play) in an Alpha League game at L.A. Baptist.
Kelly Feirfeil had 15 points for the Knights (5-12, 2-2).
Oak Park 50, Fillmore 46--Sophomore guard Julia Bowman had 18 points and 11 rebounds for host Oak Park (2-12, 1-5) in a Tri-Valley League game.
Lacie Beal scored 15 points for Fillmore.
It was the first victory for the Eagles over the Flashes in five years.
Faith Baptist 57, Pacific Hills 41--Rachel Greer had 22 points and seven steals, and Cora Weaver had 14 points and 12 rebounds for host Faith Baptist (9-5, 3-3) in a Delphic League game.
La Reina 47, Carpinteria 30--Susanna Murley had 15 points and Mackenzie Vandergeest scored 12 for La Reina (7-5, 4-1) in a Tri-Valley League game.
Village Christian 66, Marshall 19--Freshman Karri Keeble had 20 points, 10 assists and 11 steals for Village Christian (4-16, 1-4) in an Alpha League game at Marshall.
Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary 51, St. Genevieve 41--Cherissa Santos had 12 points and five rebounds, and Jasmin Ramirez had 20 rebounds for the Valiants (4-10, 0-5), who outscored the Cardinals, 20-12, in the final quarter but fell short in a Camino Real League game at Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary.
