Spotlight: PG&E; to Supply Power to Safeway, Vons

PG&E; Corp. said it will provide electricity and related energy services to Safeway Inc.’s more than 400 Safeway and Vons supermarkets around the state. The contract is one of the largest energy supply agreements in California, which is scheduled to open its $20-billion electricity market to competition in April. The agreement is PG&E;’s largest such contract, exceeding the $180-million multiyear deal to supply power to 800 McDonald’s restaurants in California.
