Conservancy to Debate Crystal Cove Plans

A $20-million seaside resort planned for Crystal Cove State Park will be the topic of debate at a Monday meeting of the Laguna Canyon Conservancy.

The centerpiece of the planned resort is a group of oceanfront cottages listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The cottages would be refurbished and rented for as much as $400 a night. Ken Columbini, a state parks spokesman, is expected to attend the meeting and talk about the project’s status.

Laguna Canyon Conservancy, the city’s 9-year-old preservation group, has neither endorsed nor formally opposed the state park plans. But Carolyn Wood, the president of the conservancy, said she fears redevelopment could harm the state park’s historic district.
