Rookie Nikki McCray scored 21 points and the Washington Mystics ended an eight-game losing streak Saturday with a 78-53 victory over the Detroit Shock before 7,906 at Washington.
Another setback and the Mystics would have tied the WNBA record of nine losses in a row set last season by Sacramento.
Washington (2-11), which outplayed its opponents in every major category, sent Detroit (6-8) to its fourth consecutive loss. The Mystics also held the Shock to a season-low point total that was 17 below its average.
Detroit had won the first two games between the teams.
Houston 72, Utah 68--Cynthia Cooper scored 24 points and the Comets rallied in the second half to tie a WNBA record before 14,136 at Houston.
The Comets equaled the league record with their eighth consecutive victory. Cleveland won eight in a row last season.
