Grant Aids Program on Sedimentation

A Ventura County conservation group was awarded a $5,000 grant last week to teach local landowners how to reduce sedimentation.
The Ventura County Resource Conservation District has developed several techniques to decrease sediment in the Mugu Lagoon, where erosion is unusually high. It is caused, in part, by excessive sediment from local orchards.
“We can share all the information that we just developed through our monitoring of these practices,” said Peggy Rose, grant manager for the group. “We can’t possibly do it countywide on our own.”
The workshops are tentatively planned for next spring, Rose said.
The nonprofit organization is one of 16 California groups that received a total of $611,000 from the Natural Resources Conservation Service to fund conservation education projects.
