Erin Connors scored with two outs in the sixth inning as Rosary defeated second-seeded West Hills Chaminade, 1-0, in a Southern Section Division IV softball semifinal Tuesday at L.A. Valley College.
The victory sends Rosary (26-6) to the finals Friday or Saturday--the times and dates are to be determined today--at Lakewood’s Mayfair Park against Corona Santiago, a 14-2 winner over North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake. Chaminade is 22-8-1.
Connors reached on a fielder’s choice and went to third on Natalie Golda’s double.
“We ran the hit-and-run to perfection, which allowed Connors to get to third,” Rosary Coach Tom Tice said, “and because we were able to put the pressure on them, we made them buckle.”
The throw from center field ricocheted off third baseman Kelly Musgrove’s glove. Pitcher Maureen LeCocq, backing up the play, made a desperate throw home.
“I could tell something was going to happen as I was coming into third,” Connors said. “And when there’s an error, you’ve got to take advantage of it.”
In Division III:
Pacifica 8, Paso Robles 0--Amanda Freed pitched her 10th no-hitter, and her third in a row, as top-seeded Pacifica (28-3) advanced to defend its title. Freed struck out 10 and walked two, and had two doubles. Pacifica plays Glendora St. Lucy’s, a 2-1 winner over Hacienda Heights Wilson. Paso Robles is 20-10.
In Division VI:
Camarillo Cornerstone Christian 6, Southern California Christian 2--Tied at 2-2, top-seeded Cornerstone (20-3) scored once in the sixth inning and added three runs in the seventh to advance to the section finals. Olga Ramos doubled for fourth-seeded SCC (17-5).
