Textron Inc. might take advantage of record prices in finance industry takeovers to sell its Avco Financial Services unit, which could fetch up to $5 billion, according to a person familiar with the company. Textron’s businesses range from Cessna aircraft to automotive parts.
Bell Atlantic Corp. said it will offer high-speed Internet access in some of its East Coast markets this fall as it taps into demand for fast connections to the global computer network. The Baby Bell will charge consumers and home businesses $70 to $190 a month for unlimited use. The service will be provided over existing copper telephone lines using ADSL--asymmetric digital subscriber line technology.
