Long Beach Poly Triples Pleasure

Long Beach Poly, which won the boys’ state track and field championship and was co-winner of the girls’ state title, is the first school to have won three state championships in a single school year.
The Jackrabbits, who also won the boys’ cross-country title, topped the record of two state championships set by Stockton High in basketball and swimming in 1921-22. That mark was tied 13 times.
Long Beach Poly has won seven boys’ and five girls’ state track championships and has won a record-tying 16 state titles overall.
Berkeley High has also won 16 state championships.

Angela Williams of Chino, who won the 100 and 200 meters and long jump at the state championships last Saturday, will compete in the USA Track & Field Junior championships at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville on June 26-27.
The meet will yield the U.S. team for the World Junior championships in Annecy, France, July 28-Aug. 2.
