Sewer Line Rupture Forces Cove Closures

A ruptured sewer line forced the closure of three coves in Laguna Beach on Saturday, although authorities believe the leak was contained before it posed a substantial health threat.
City crews pinpointed the leak about 12:30 p.m. in the area of Shaw’s Cove, near the 100 block of Fairview Street, police said. Two other neighboring beaches--Diver’s Cove and Fisherman’s Cove--were closed as a precaution.
Officials with the city’s sewer department expect cleanup of the area to take about three days, after which time the coves will reopen.
