A 4-month-old baby was fatally wounded and two other people were hospitalized after a traffic collision Tuesday, police said.
Officers responded at 10 a.m. to Irvine Boulevard and Yale Avenue where the driver of a Chevrolet Astro van had turned left from the far right lane into the path of a Plymouth Voyager, according to Sgt. Denny Jenner. The impact sent the van into a third car.
The 4-month-old boy was ejected from the child seat, which was in the right front seat of the van. The baby sustained major head injuries and later died at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.
An 11-year-old sustained serious head cuts and an adult, Carol Carlson of Rancho Santa Margarita, suffered minor head injuries, police said. It was not clear what cars they were in. Both were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange.
