Rita Mariani
Golden West, Freshman
Swimming
Mariani, from Surabaya, Indonesia, is one of a growing number of international swimmers on the two-year level. She set a state record and two other school records for the Rustlers at the Mt. San Antonio Invitational last weekend. Her state record of 1 minute 5.26 seconds was in the 100 breaststroke. Her school records were in the 200 individual medley (2:10.96) and the 50 breaststroke (31.12).
Softball
Michelle Harrison
* Fullerton, sophomore. She gave up a run and four hits in two victories.
Steve Smyth
Cypress, Freshman
Baseball
Smyth, a left-handed pitcher from Temecula Valley High, was a redshirt last season as the Chargers won the state title. This season, he is off to a 6-0 start, including pitching a four-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory over Saddleback Thursday. He struck out 11 to give him 48 in 47 innings this season. He has allowed 27 hits. Smyth has an earned-run average of 1.34, which is the best among starting pitchers in the Orange Empire Conference.
Volleyball
Casey Jennings
* Volleyball, sophomore. He had 27 kills in two matches, both won by the Rustlers.
