Walker Lifts Monarchs to Victory

Robin Walker’s two-out run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth gave third-ranked Mater Dei a 1-0 victory over No. 4 Woodbridge in a nonleague softball game Tuesday at Mater Dei.
The Monarchs’ Marissa Young pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven.
Walker’s third hit of the afternoon scored Jodi Schicker from second. Walker, a junior shortstop, had all of Mater Dei’s hits.
Mater Dei is 4-1. Woodbridge is 7-1.
In other nonleague games:
Capistrano Valley Christian 5, Oceanside Tri City Christian 4 (8 innings)--Amanda Frankovich homered to left in the top of the eighth to break a 4-4 tie and the Eagles (1-2) held on.
El Modena 1, Edison 0 (12 innings)--Erin Norton singled to score Morgan Scott in the top of the 12th inning. She also pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts for El Modena (3-2-1). Edison is 4-1.
Kennedy 3, Downey Warren 1 (9 innings)--Michelle Cross’ ninth-inning single scored Talasa Vigil and Sara Mesa to win the game for Kennedy (3-2). Vigil led off the top of the inning with a single and reached second on a sacrifice bunt. Mesa then singled bringing Cross to the plate.
Pitcher Nicole Crouse pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts for Kennedy.
Orange Lutheran 1, Cerritos Whitney 0--Winning pitcher Jessica Edwards (1-4) struck out 17 in 6 1/3 innings, allowing only one hit. But she left the game in the seventh with a sore ankle. Nicole Sandbert hit a run-scoring single in the first for host Orange Lutheran (4-2).
Los Amigos 12, Laguna Beach 0 (6 innings, mercy rule)--Kim Guillen struck out five for visiting Los Amigos (5-0).
Liberty Christian 10, Inglewood South Bay Lutheran 0 (6 innings, mercy rule)--Theresa Raia pitched a no-hitter, walking five and striking out five for host Liberty Christian (3-2).
Sunny Hills 6, Orange 5 (8 innings, international tie-breaker)--Sarah Monken hit into a fielder’s choice that was misplayed into two errors and both the international tie-breaker runner and Monken scored to give Sunny Hills (3-2) a two-run lead.
Elizabeth Ngayan hit a run-scoring single for Orange (3-4) in the bottom of the eighth, but the Panthers fell a run short.
Villa Park 1, Fullerton 0 (8 innings)--Tina McCarty singled in pinch-runner Jenny Beam in the bottom of the eighth for Villa Park. Winning pitcher Brittany Cuddy (1-0) struck out six over in four innings of relief for the Spartans (4-2-1).
