WINNETKA — An 18-month-old boy was mauled by his family’s Doberman pinscher on Wednesday afternoon, prompting the child’s parents to have the animal destroyed, authorities said.
The boy was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center with wounds to his face and head, said Bob Collis, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman. Collis said the boy was in serious condition, and was expected to undergo surgery to repair the wounds.
The toddler was with his father in their house in the 19900 block of Londelius Street when he was attacked, Collis said.
Hugh Briefman, an animal control officer for the city’s Department of Animal Services, said the dog’s owners requested that it be destroyed.
