Proposal for Junior High Science Exit Exams Killed

Eighth-graders will not have to take more exit exams before graduation to high school.
Fullerton School District Trustee Kim Ann Guth had proposed the tests, saying eighth-graders should be tested in science and social studies before leaving the district’s junior highs.
The district governs the city’s elementary and junior high schools. Area high schools are governed by the Fullerton Joint Union High School District.
Guth said the state offers a science and social studies test that the district could use. Her colleagues on the board disagreed, saying the test may produce results that wouldn’t necessarily reflect what the students had learned. The board took no action on the proposal Tuesday, in effect killing it.
Eighth-grade students already take exit exams in other subjects, including English and math.
