City Ends Hunt, Fills Position

After a five-month, $15,000 nationwide search, council members decided Friday to look no further than City Hall to find their new city administrator.
Acting City Administrator Ray Silver was unanimously chosen to fill the position vacated in October when Michael T. Uberuaga took a job in San Diego.
Silver, 49, was hired as an assistant city administrator in Huntington Beach in 1991. Before that, he was city administrator in Corona, and later in Upland.
His salary has yet to be negotiated, officials said. He now makes $142,000 a year.
Silver said his first major challenge will be resolving a contract impasse with the city’s firefighters, police and marine safety workers. Next on his agenda: shepherding a multitude of commercial, industrial and residential development projects underway in the city.
Silver said the long, tough days ahead are nothing to fear.
“Been there. Done that,” he said, chuckling. “I’ve been doing this for 26 years.”
